Dan Powers named office managing partner of Grant Thornton’s Wichita practice
WICHITA, Kan. May 8, 2014 –(BUSINESS WIRE)–Grant Thornton LLP named Dan Powers, 53, office managing partner of its Wichita practice, effective immediately. Most recently, Powers served as the Tax practice leader of the Grant Thornton Shared Services Center in Bangalore, India.
He will succeed Lori Davis, who was named office managing partner of the firm’s Denver practice. Prior to his move to India, Powers served as the Tax practice leader for the Kansas City office.

Powers has nearly 30 years of public accounting experience and has provided accounting, tax and advisory services to numerous large and mid-sized companies with both domestic and foreign operations. He has extensive experience with issues concerning consolidated returns; S corporation and partnership returns; accounting for income tax issues; net operating loss utilization; state and local tax planning; mergers and acquisitions; and individual tax and family wealth planning.
Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Powers was a partner with Arthur Andersen LLP and Deloitte LLP, serving public and private clients in a variety of industries.
Previously, Powers served as the president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City, vice-president of Jackson County CASA, was a member of the Association for Corporate Growth and served on the Federal Affairs and Taxes Committee for the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Powers received a master’s of accounting degree with a tax emphasis and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Florida. He is a certified public accountant in Kansas and Missouri.
